If there's anything you have been wanting to say to Henri, it would be a great idea to go ahead and email him (henri at qais dot com). Not that he's going this week, but still you shouldn't put it off.

Henri, I've never commented (though I've read every post) as we only met briefly at Bloedel Donovon. But I know you've got to be one amazing guy based on your wonderful wife and beautiful daughter. I am wishing you all the best on your next adventure and hope to continue getting to know Jill - she's a special lady. Thinking of you and your family.

Henri,

One of the best times I've had with you is building pinballs! I love that you got me into that world (even though it is expensive). But I remember going to the warehouse and just being in awe of how much pinball junk was there. You're a great friend. Please get better, i need someone to fix my screen!!!!

Godspeed,
Steve

Hey Henri,
I only met you about a year ago and then only briefly get to talk to you, as usually we cross paths when I drop off or pick up my son Robert from the VRPA tournaments. You were one of the first people I saw the first time I took him to one of the tournaments, and I remember your big, friendly smile and how happy it made me. The next month there you were again with that same bright smile, and Robert told me your name. I always think of you fondly as someone who can spread joy and connect with people without even having to say anything. I haven't met very many people who can do that.
I am sorry you are so sick.

Dear Henri:

Even though we never met in person and you were only on the SDM project for a short time, I feel we are very luck to have you as a team member. I am also glad to let you know the Jazz implementation you initiated has been critical to the scale of the SDM. We grew from about 20 people at the beginning of this year to over 40 now. Not only the research and development team members are using Jazz. The SDM customers also fall in love with Jazz. We are also working on a Jazz case study targeting for OOPSLA conference.

I am still hoping for miracles. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Take care and get well.

Henri through all this has been incredible to watch. My big brother taught me how to do so many things, a lot of them on the more breakneck side of life, mostly by forcing me to trust that he knew enough about what he was getting me into that I didn't have to worry about it myself. It never failed. In the face of the unknown the past few months, there were no certainties to hold onto, but he managed to show us how one faces circumstance head on with courage and pure dignity. I'm truly grateful for all of you who've been following the blog and sending positive thoughts, and those who have been writing, its been of great comfort. Samia.

Habibi Henri

A long time ago (january ? february), I stumbled upon Andrew Flynn's site: http://www.forty200.com/

I dont know if you like this sort of publicity but I feel your friends should read what Andrew wrote.

I'll only add that Andrew's last sentence "He’s one of the good guys" is incorrect as it stands.

It should read "He’s one of the very few really good guys."

Henri,

I feel very fortunate to have known you throughout our journey together at ASU. As we were each struggling through our dissertation at times, you helped keep me focused on the end goal. Those last few weeks leading up to our defenses were definitely challenging, but we made it -- together. I am honored to have shared such an important milestone with you. Thank you. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

random fond memories

- getting my butt kicked by Henri in scrabble (what just happened? rematch!)

- riding entirely too fast on Henri's motorcycle (or so it seemed to me; he was probably in complete control) trying to get to the post office to pick up parts i had ordered to build my own computer. he later helped me assemble it

- listening to Henri wonder why i even bothered looking at the menu at the four peaks brewpub when i always ordered the same thing

- debating the merits of making a right turn or a left turn out of the whole foods parking lot to get back to his house in the most efficient way (we drew diagrams and had a lengthy discussion about traffic patterns and such)

- Henri loaning me his truck when i was without transportation and needing to buy a new car

- visiting the Naccache household for several thanksgiving holidays after i had moved away from arizona

- listening to Henri and Jill's always sound advice about any and all quandaries facing me. (too bad i didn't always follow their advice)

it is a privilege to be able to call Henri a friend. he will always be in my thoughts.

I have been, and always shall be your friend...

We have had some pinball fun, truly enjoyed our time talking pins, MAME, etc. I have been following this for a long time, and I want you to know you have touched so many of us. You are a great friend, and Arizona was saddened by your leaving.

I drove by the old house the other day, and was thinking about you.

Someone higher up must need a fantastic person at their side.

Thanks for your friendship and your wit.

Thank you for being you.

John
